OREGON NAWGJ NEWSLETTER2005 SYMPOSIUMWhat a great opportunity! Our thanks to Lisa Boylan for doing the leg work and getting the ball rolling on this project. Cindy made the presentation to the National board last summer. The final decision was delayed until a site visit could be made after the National Judge’s Cup. The National board was very impressed by the support of the Region II judges at the judge’s cup. This helped to tip the balance in our favor. Thanks! In order to make this symposium a success we will need the help of every judge in the state! We are small in numbers so we need to work hard. Mark you calendars now. July 14-17, 2005. If you have any ideas, input or suggestions…….We are working on a site for a banquet right now. Give me a call or email me. Level 6 Floor RequirementIt has been brought to my attention that there is no requirement or corresponding deduction for a 180 degree split on the tour jete' in the level 6 floor routine. The specific deductions are as follows:
Again, no 180 degree split requirement or deduction listed here. NATIONAL JUDGES CUPMany thanks to those judges who volunteered at the National Judge’s Cup. The meet was a huge success for the National NAWGJ fund. Auburn Gymnastics did a great job hosting the meet. Our local judges had a wonderful opportunity to judge on a four judge panel with judges from all over the nation. Those who volunteered gained valuable experience. Be sure to ask Ruth, Linda and Cindy about their wonderful train ride! SPRING CLINICWe will hold another clinic Sunday, March 28th. We will hold the clinic from 9-12. Then you can escape for some retail therapy. Cindy Lord had graciously agreed to host us again. Put this date on your calendar. VOLUNTEERThere are opportunities to volunteer for level 8-10 regionals to be held in Corvallis on April 2-4. This could count for volunteer credit on your yellow card. Contact Chris PROTOCOLQuestions about applying deductions or judging related issues should be directed to Ann Heppner. Questions regarding USAG matters should be directed to John Sahlein. We are fortunate to have the NAWGJ regional director in our state also, Cindy Lord and the regional USAG chair, Ruth Sandoz. Linda Mulvihill is the Region II technical person. Please direct your questions accordingly. Follow the proper channels. LEVEL 4 CLARIFICATIONFloor- The gymnast may choose the direction she wishes to perform on the floor mat unless there is a space constraint. Vault – There is no deduction for repulsion in a hollow body position. If the gymnast lands in a hollow body position she should return to a flat lying position before saluting. There would be a deduction if she did not achieve the flat position. As always, the deduction for a pike at the hips will be applied when necessary. Please direct any questions about this to Ann Heppner, Cindy Lord or Linda Mulvihill. HAND HOLDINGThe meet referee’s responsibility is really only at the meet site. If the meet referee calls you before the meet with assignments and meet times this is above and beyond the call of duty and a wonderful thing. You are adults and able to call the meet site for the schedule. You are qualified judges in every event and should be ready to judge anything. SJD ELECTIONSEligibility for State Judging Director
